Hydrostatic Testing
Western International has developed a specialized hydro-test procedure that is unique to the industry. Utilizing state-of-the-art computerized technology, Western’s hydro-test offers a fast, accurate and reliable solution for maintaining your cylinder fleet.
Western’s hydro-test services are available anywhere in the continental United States. The procedure includes blasting to the bare metal, a baked-on primer, and a customer-specified topcoat. For your convenience, Western also provides an extensive inventory of CGA cylinder-valves, available for purchase and installation upon your request.
All hydro-test procedures are performed in accordance with CGA protocols and DOT guidelines. For orders or inquiries, feel free to contact your Western representative.
Ultrasonic Testing
In addition to the Hydrotest method of cylinder requalification, Western also offers the option of UT (Ultrasonic Testing) Ultrasonic examination tests measure the thickness of cylinder walls over their full lengths. Cylinders do not pass the test if, at any point, the thickness of their walls falls below the established minimum.
One advantage of ultrasonic testing is that it identifies small faults, such as cracks, corrosion, pits and gouges that are not always found during the internal visual inspection required as part of a standard hydrostatic test. Because ultrasonic testing produces highly accurate measurements, the Department of Transportation waived the required internal visual examination for cylinders used in certain services. This waiver eliminates the need to remove the cylinder valve. The benefit being that no further cylinder preparation is required to return the cylinder to full service, which can be costly especially in high purity gas applications.
